Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Fabrics
As the world’s leading cotton sustainability initiative, Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) fabrics combine quality production with an environmentally and ethically friendly approach. Committed to responsibility throughout the fabric life cycle, BCI allows farming communities to thrive socially and economically while also maintaining high quality standards for the cotton industry.
Green Shirt Ranking Fabrics by Canopy
A Green Shirt ranking by Canopy indicates that a producer of wood-based fiber (such as rayon or viscose) has been audited and assessed to have taken efforts towards sustainability in their wood and pulp sourcing, is working towards using alternative non-wood material, and/or has taken substantial action towards conservation of critical Ancient and Endangered Forests around the globe.
ECOVERO Fabrics
ECOVERO viscose is an eco-friendly alternative to regular viscose sourced from sustainable wood. Due to a stringent production process, ECOVERO produces up to 50% less CO2emissions, as well as 50% less water waste as compared to generic viscose. Certified with the EU EcoLabel, ECOVERO is a high-quality choice perfect for environmentally-minded sewists.
OEKO-TEX Certified Fabrics
Committed to sustainable and responsible practices, OEKO-TEX certifications are some of the most rigorous within the textile industry. Tested from raw materials to finished products, and updated annually with the latest scientific research, OEKO-TEX certified products are ideal for those looking to minimize harm for both the environment and human health.
Organic Fabrics
Organic fibers are any fibers grown without the use of harmful pesticides, insecticides, or fertilizers. By eliminating use of these toxic chemicals, the growth of these fibers does not leave harmful chemicals within soil or water runoff, providing a cleaner and healthier environment for plants, animals, and humans alike.
European Flax
Sourced from growers in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, European Flax is a sustainable fabric of the highest quality. Throughout each stage of the fabric's life cycle, it is rigorously tested to ensure ethical and sustainable responsibility. Grown with zero GMOs, waste, or harmful irrigation practices, European Flax is the ideal option for luxury, eco-friendly linen.
Recycled Fibers & Fabrics
Made from post-consumer waste, including plastic bottles, paper, or textile scraps, Recycled Fibers give what was once in a landfill a new life. Encompassing a variety of different fibers and weave structures, Recycled Fibers are on the cutting edge of fabric science and sustainability initiatives.
Other Ways to Shop Sustainably
Biodegradable Fabrics
Biodegradable, or compostable, fabrics allow for decomposition to happen naturally via microorganisms, such as bacteria or fungi. By engaging in these natural processes, biodegradable fabrics do not contribute to landfill waste or methane emissions, while allowing valuable nutrients to return to the environment.
Deadstock Fabrics
Deadstock Fabric is surplus fabric from a fabric mill’s production run that is unwanted or not needed by the designer or brand that commissioned it. Purchasing deadstock fabric prevents usable fabric from being sent to landfills, making it a more sustainable option than purchasing newly produced fabric.
